House animals

We are animal lovers

Our owner family has always had pets. At the moment we have pet three cats who roam around the property freely. And during the winter time Emma’s beautiful reindeer are also here to delight us. Hence we welcome also your pets! Just please keep them on a leash, we have had some very unfortunate accidents with guest’s dog and Emma’s reindeer in the past and it’s something we want to avoid at all costs.

But let’s meet our house animals!

Our cats

We have three cats who live in Giellajohka.

They’re all friendly and adorable so you may get known with them if you see them around. Especially the yellow fur ball called “Miuku” (her name comes from the meowing sound she makes a lot) loves attention and will be your best friend if you show her some love.

The other two are called “Tatti”, who is kind of an adventurer usually going around on his own paths, and “Oona”, who is the grandma of the cats - a fine old lady who also loves her attention from time to time

Birds of Giellajohka

We have a bird feeding station next to our restaurant. Especially during the winter time we get daily visitors such as Siberian tit, Pine Grosbeak and jaybirds.

Especially the Siberian tits can be really curious and friendly. If you want, you can ask our staff to show how to feed them from hand!

You may also see red squirrels visiting the bird feeding station and sometimes battling for their snacks.

Other forest animals

It’s not too rare to see a fox or even a moose nearby our property - after all we are located in the middle of wilderness.

The forest animals are usually very shy and afraid of people. If you manage to see one, it’s wise to keep silent to increase your chances of admiring it a little bit longer.

And then of course, there’s plenty of free reindeer roaming around. Did you know that in Finland all of the reindeer are somebody’s property? Even though they are running free, they are still not completely wild animals.
